Government talking point

While honoring fallen officers is legitimate, the tightly coordinated posts leverage the remembrance to reaffirm a political identity built on deference to police power. The messaging amplifies a binary of ‘pro-police patriots’ versus unspecified threats, fortifying authoritarian loyalties rather than genuine policy debate.

All law enforcement and justice workers deserve honor and praise. It's unacceptable that Rep. Scott Perry and the GOP pick and choose who they favor according to what Trump tells them. Police Week: Thank law enforcement for keeping us safe. National Police Week presents an opportunity to reflect on the dedication it takes for a person to decide to protect and serve the rest of us. And on days such as Peace Officers Memorial Day Friday, we also have a chance to honor those who gave their lives to do so

We honor them too. But honoring fallen officers means more than a post on Peace Officers Memorial Day. In February 2025, your Senate colleagues voted on an amendment to fund the COPS Hiring Program…the primary federal mechanism for putting more officers on the beat. That amendment to increase federal funding for local law enforcement through the COPS Hiring Program was rejected 48–52. Your party killed it. Meanwhile, the administration you’ve largely supported has overseen the proposal to merge the DEA and ATF as part of a wider initiative to eliminate more than 100,000 federal jobs …agencies that exist to support the men and women in law enforcement you’re honoring today. Words on a memorial page cost nothing. Votes cost something. The families carrying their loved ones’ legacies forward deserve a senator who shows up for them in the appropriations process, not just on the calendar.

This honor rings hollow when the House GOP leadership delayed for THREE YEARS the installation of the plaque honoring Capitol Police who put their lives on the line January 6, 2021. Did you speak up about that, congressman? Of course not.

Tomorrow starts National Police Week. A time for co-workers, families and other survivors to gather in Washington DC to dedicate the names of those officers that gave their life for others, THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE, on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Memorial. This is a day, a week dedicated to Honoring Our Fallen Heroes. This is NOT law enforcement appreciation day, that should be every day. Please do not confuse these. If you need a specific day to show your appreciation for law enforcement, that day is generally set aside on January 9, PLEASE LEAVE NATIONAL POLICE WEEK and May 15th for our fallen heroes. Also I ask that you Please keep all of the survivors in your thoughts and prayers for comfort and healing and especially those travelling to participate in this weeks memorial services.

all respect and great appreciation to law enforcement agents in every capacity, we wouldn't be safe without you. With that said, we have been reminded, time, and time again, we don't live in an everyone gets a trophy for participating society. So we must as eagerly commend police officers doing great jobs as we should condemn those doing poorly in the field. Wearing a badge is an honor, and with that, comes a great responsibility.

Listen, as someone with a law enforcement background, I will always honor and support all of our honest, professional, hard working men and women in law enforcement...BUT when you fully support a man who pardoned violent offenders who attacked law enforcement officers at our Capitol, you don't get to slide by with these comments being unchecked. If you TRULY supported EVERYONE who wears a badge, you would've spoken out against Trump's blanketed pardons of the J-6 rioters.

National Police Week is about honoring officers who serve their communities — not turning “law and order” into a partisan slogan while your party excuses lawlessness when it’s politically convenient. This is the same party that defended the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, where more than 140 officers were injured protecting Congress from a violent mob. The same party whose leader pardoned or promised pardons to people convicted of assaulting police officers. The same party that calls FBI agents “thugs” and “weaponized” whenever investigations involve Republicans. And while Sen. Fischer talks about “critical safety priorities,” Republicans are simultaneously defending a proposal for a taxpayer-funded ballroom at the White House projected to cost hundreds of millions of dollars. How exactly does a ballroom help Nebraska families, reduce crime, support first responders, or lower costs for working Americans? Nebraska deserves honest conversations about public safety, not political theater. Supporting law enforcement also means respecting the rule of law consistently — not only when it benefits your party politically.

Pat Fallon's propaganda installment for you today: "This National Police Week, we honor the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day..." Except those police that were working at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 and assaulted by Trump's violent, criminal mob trying to overthrow an election for him. Treasonous seditionists that Trump later pardoned calling them "patriots." All the while, Pat Fallon's tail feverishly wagged as he disregarded the constitutional oath he took. Pat Fallon claims to be able to recognize bravery while showing he is a political coward.

The job of a good police officer is to protect and to serve their community. The weight is on caretaking their citizens, not arresting them. You are a strong supporter of the sort of bad policing that disproportionately targets minority groups and communities. Of the sort of bad policing that involves over-muscled officers swaggering around in fake commando clothes. If you support police officers, the riots and death and injuries to officers on January 6 should be a red line which prevents you from ever supporting Trump and his attempt to obstruct American democracy.
