Government talking point

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth’s six-month “NATO 3.0 review” dominates right-wing feeds, wrapped in warnings that allies must pay up or face U.S. withdrawal. The coordination casts Trump-era appointees as tough guardians of American strength while painting allies as deadweight, reinforcing an America-first worldview that sidelines multilateral norms.

Crazy that the secretary of war doesn’t understand NATO is a defense alliance not an alliance to attack other countries. SMH

I think that the US needs NATO, I hope that everyone understands it, if you don't understand it, then you are the ones that lose in that game. Article 5 was used because of 9/11. It is a defense alliance. Of course everyone can make their own choices, but I hope that you understand to make the right choices.

America contributed 15.8% of NATO's budget in 2025. A lot of money but they get a lot back in return. They are able to use European bases to project American power across the globe. They also make a great deal of money from weapons sales to other NATO allies.

The USA contributes 15% of NATO’s annual budget (down from 16%), same as Germany. Don’t be misled by the USA’s overall defence budget which covers its hundreds of bases and military forces at home and around the world in support of its national interests.
