Just some background on Major Dockery: Background: Major Dockery served as a platoon leader in Kunar and Kapisa Provinces, among the most dangerous areas of the Afghanistan conflict. During a patrol, his platoon was ambushed by enemy forces using machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades. Under intense fire, Major Dockery repeatedly crossed open ground to rally his soldiers, fought his way to those trapped, and engaged enemy forces to rescue an unconscious soldier while providing lifesaving care. More than a decade later, the soldiers who served beside him remain united in their belief that his actions that day merit the Medal of Honor. Major Dockery’s career includes enlisted service in the Indiana National Guard, graduation from West Point, service as a Green Beret, and selection as a Presidential Leadership Scholar. His awards include two Silver Stars, the Legion of Merit, three Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts, the Nininger Award for Valor, the MacArthur Award for Leadership, and the Military Times Soldier of the Year. Roger, it’s been 14 years since Major Dockery heroic actions which justified his award. In that time, you were a Congressman for 4 years and a Senator for 6 years. Why did it take a Congresswoman from Indiana to enter a bill to award the medal ? Have you ever sponsored a bill awarding a medal of valor? You certainly didn’t for the Capitol police officers. I’m certain that you didn’t know until yesterday that there was a Kansas connection to Major Dockery. Which means you didn’t know the connection when you voted on the bill to award the medal in the Senate. I guess that your staff dropped the ball That’s called throwing them under the bus.
