Government talking point

GOP figures seize on a city map that omitted Little Italy while mapping other immigrant communities, portraying the omission as proof of anti-European bias. The outrage narrative feeds a broader culture-war storyline that immigrant recognition supposedly erases white heritage, inflaming identity grievances without substantive policy discussion.

If the map was meant to be a comprehensive map of New York’s iconic immigrant enclaves, then leaving out Little Italy is a head-scratcher. But if the map was meant to be a selective guide highlighting some current immigrant communities, then calling it “erasure” overstates what’s actually happening.
