Zero Evidence Noncitizens Vote; Republicans Demand SAVE Act ID Rules to Purge Rolls
Voter-eligibility manipulation and roll purges
Officials claim only native-born citizens vote, recycling a debunked myth to demand new documentation hurdles. The rhetoric primes the public for roll purges that would disproportionately disenfranchise naturalized citizens and young voters.

Every single time I see a post that somebody’s trying to say we need secure, elections and passes save act I want to be sure that I remind everyone that this is not a voter ID bill. This is a voter suppression bill! Women will have to jump through quite a few hoops and pay extra money and it will cause a lot of women not to be able to vote. Americans do not want this! We would be fine with voter ID, but not voter suppression which is what the save act is. Don’t fall for their rhetoric!
The SAVE Act wouldn't change who is legally allowed to vote—only U.S. citizens can already vote in federal elections. It would change how people prove their citizenship when registering. This act DISENFRANCHISES appropriate voters. Many married women could face extra hurdles because their birth certificate is in their maiden name while their current ID is in their married name, meaning they may need additional legal documents to register. Millions of eligible voters don't have a passport readily available, and obtaining or replacing birth certificates or other citizenship documents can take time and cost money. College students, military families, and anyone who moves frequently could be affected because updating voter registration after a move may require presenting documentary proof of citizenship again, depending on how the law is implemented. Older adults, rural residents, low-income Americans, and naturalized citizens may also face additional barriers if they don't have easy access to the required documents. Supporters say the bill strengthens election security by verifying citizenship. Critics argue it could make it harder for eligible Americans to register and vote, even though noncitizen voting in federal elections is already illegal.
So full of it! The Save Act - Republican Gaslighting The SAVE Act Isn’t About Election Integrity — It’s About Choosing Voters - Trump Says It Will Guarantee Republican Wins for the Next 50 Years When politicians start claiming that requiring documentation will “hurt Democrats,” the real conversation should be about why so many eligible American citizens don’t have easy access to passports, birth certificates, or naturalization papers in the first place. Millions of elderly Americans, rural Americans, low-income Americans, and even veterans do not have easy access to these documents, and politicians know this. This is how voter suppression works in the real world — not by banning voting outright, but by putting up financial, bureaucratic, and documentation barriers that sound reasonable on paper but disproportionately affect certain groups of American citizens. The right to vote is not supposed to depend on how much money you have, whether you were born in a hospital with perfect records 70 years ago, or whether you can take time off work and pay government fees to track down paperwork. Election integrity matters, but so does making sure eligible American citizens are not pushed out of the democratic process by unnecessary barriers. A strong democracy makes it easier for eligible citizens to vote, not harder. Republicans are selling the SAVE Act as “election security,” with Donald Trump’s full backing — but look closer: it’s the same old con dressed up in new language. A driver’s license? Not enough. You’d need documents that perfectly match your birth certificate. That means: • Married women whose names don’t match? Problem. • Adopted Americans with different legal names? Problem. • Seniors with outdated or missing records? Problem. • Low-income voters who can’t afford time off, fees, or legal paperwork? Big problem. Getting certified documents costs money, takes time, and requires navigating bureaucracy that disproportionately hits women, the elderly, and the poor — the very people who already face barriers to voting. This isn’t about stopping fraud — it’s about creating obstacles. When you can’t win by expanding your ideas, you restrict access to the ballot. You make voting harder, more confusing, more expensive — and then call it “security.” It’s not security. It’s suppression with a legal wrapper. They’re not protecting elections; they’re choosing their voters. And let’s be clear: this isn’t abstract. Remember January 2, 2021 — Trump called Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and told him to “find 11,780 votes,” the exact number needed to flip the state. A sitting president tried to overturn a certified election result. Georgia didn’t yield. Integrity held — but this should never be normalized. This is where the Viktor Orbán playbook comes in. Orbán didn’t end democracy in Hungary overnight. He did it step by step: • Change voting rules • Control courts • Control media • Target minorities • Redefine citizenship and voting rights • Make it harder for opponents’ voters to vote • Use “law and order” and “national identity” as justification He kept elections — but made sure the system guaranteed the outcome. That’s how democracy dies now. Not with tanks. With paperwork. With court cases. With “election integrity” laws. Trump just admitted the SAVE Act is about guaranteeing Republican wins for 50 years. Election security or election engineering?
Yes, Nick a majority of Americans do support simple voter ID. But don't confuse that want with the ridiculous SAVE AMERICAN ACT bill! We are smarter than that, Nick.
80% did NOT say they support the "SAVE Act", they said only U.S. Citizens should be able to vote in federal elections.. big difference! You have to have an ID to register. If the SAVE Act was, show your DL with your Voter Card to be able to vote, then, most would agree and some states require. But that is NOT what the "SAVE Act" is about..
Non-citizen voting is real. We don’t need the SAVE America Act to clean rolls. Every election cycle now brings the same fight: one side insists noncitizen voting is a crisis, the other insists it’s a myth
What was the question that was asked that resulted in those responses? In any case: SHOWING an ID is not the issue. What IS the issue is ensuring that every voter has the easy and free ability to obtain the required ID in time for the next election (when and wherever that is for the individual). Institute this requirement for the 2028 election and provide a free and easy path to get the ID and you will get the support to claim to have in this post.
Non citizens do not vote. SAVE ACT is not needed.
Let's review the SAVE ACT : A married woman has REAL ID driver's license. Will this be accepted as proof of citizenship?" NO. Only 5 states (NY, WA, VT, MI, MN) use an Enhanced ID; your Real ID will NOT be accepted as proof of citizenship when registering to vote. "Will a BIRTH CERTIFICATE provide proof, even though it shows her maiden name?" NO. Proof of citizenship cannot be verified by your birth certificate if the name does not match. "Will a MARRIAGE LICENSE provide this proof if I bring it WITH by birth certificate and Real ID?" NO. Since marriage licenses do not specify citizenship, you would need to bring a PASSPORT or ACTIVE MILITARY ID with papers. "I'm ALREADY REGISTERED to vote! Am I guaranteed that I won't have to re-register?" NO. As the bill currently stands, there is no requirement to notify you if your name is removed from an existing registration database. "If I cannot afford to obtain a passport in time to vote, are there provisions to make sure my vote counts?" NO. "If I can afford to obtain a passport but cannot obtain documents or receive the passport in time to vote, are there provisions to make sure I am able to vote?" NO. "Will the name requirements affect men?" NO. "Will the passport requirements affect anyone with enough money and resources to get what's newly required and quickly?" NO. "Is this really about preventing illegal immigrants from voting?" NO.

Are they voting? Just being on a voter roll doesn't mean anything.
Really simple congresswoman. Write up a bill, that provides a free Federal ID to all registered voters. Send it through committee, get all necessary approvals, have the speaker bring it to a vote. Free ID is the key. Do that and your problem is solved. Your welcone
I agree that protecting our elections is very important and thus am voting Blue as well as many others are doing. The Save Act is the wrong way to do it. One way to save voter integrity and voice is to outlaw all gerrymandering for all parties.
SAVE America Act causes more problems than it fixes. New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill wants to figure out how and why some 6,600 noncitizens were accidentally registered to vote between roughly June 2023 and
You mean Suppress Voters Act.
Non citizens do not vote. SAVE ACT is not needed.
Protect every lawful vote, or support the SAVE America Act? Which do you want?
Pass the SAVE Act now! 📢 The Senate must listen to the overwhelming majority of US citizens demanding election integrity. 🇺🇸
Let’s repeat: Being on voter roll is not the same as voting. New Jersey will do its job with managing the list and/or prevent them from voting. What about Tennessee?
Major Republican governor admits Trump's beloved Save Act won't pass. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had a seemingly pessemistic view on the passage of the SAVE Act in the
I proved my citizenship when I registered to vote. Anything past that is superfluous.
The American people already have secure elections! As it is written, the Save Act is essentially a poll tax. Currently an adult U.S. passport is $165. Your renewal fee is $130. The average cost of a certified Birth Certificate is $15.-$35. Online services or expedited shipping runs about $40.-$60. In the case of name changes, if a marriage certificate is needed it is about $19. Poll taxes were ruled unconstitutional for federal elections by the Twenty-fourth Amendment, ratified in 1964, and later by the Supreme Court in 1966 for all elections. In the 2024 presidential election, 73.6% (or 174 million people) of the citizen voting-age population was registered to vote and 65.3% (or 154 million people) voted according to new voting and registration tables released by the U.S. Census Bureau. We should be working to get 100% of American citizens registered to vote rather than putting hurdles in their way!! Voter fraud is virtually a non-existent problem!
