I'm completely in favor of incentivizing veterans who want to drive longhaul trucks. But many will not... it's a really tough life. No illegal immigrants should be driving... but my hunch tells me there are very few if any. Gotta rile the base up before the midterms though, right?

First, at present, there is no publicly available evidence establishing if this is even a real alleged problem nor are federal estimates available tracking undocumented truck drivers. To legally operate a commercial truck in interstate commerce, a driver generally must hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Federal rules have historically required proof of lawful presence for non-domiciled CDLs. In 2026 those requirements were tightened further, limiting eligibility to only certain temporary visa categories. The Trump administration has stated that it revoked about 56,000 commercial licenses during its recent immigration-status enforcement effort but those revoked licenses were not all held by undocumented immigrants.
