Every Purple Heart tells the story of courage, sacrifice, and a family forever changed. Those who have borne the battle deserve our deepest respect, gratitude, and remembrance. The greatest tribute we can offer them is not simply buying more equipment. It is ensuring the next generation of Soldiers is the best trained, best equipped, and best prepared we can make them—and that they are committed to combat only when there is no better path. As we invest billions in defense, let's also invest the time to honestly examine the readiness of the individual Soldier. Production and procurement are only part of the equation. Readiness is measured by what a Soldier can confidently employ, maintain, and sustain when it matters most. Let's never allow budgets, contracts, or production numbers to become our measure of patriotism. The flag belongs to the men and women willing to carry it into harm's way—not to the dollars spent in its name. Every Soldier serves with honor. Those at the tip of the spear often bear the greatest burden when ground combat is ordered. They deserve our very best. May we continue building strength while praying for peace. May calm minds and wise leaders prevail, so our sons and daughters remain prepared to defend, yet are called to fight only when there is no better path.
