This is what’s known as buying votes. They know that coal mining is a disappearing industry, but there is an election or two that they want the coal country to vote Republican. A more sensible alternative would have been to give them the money to create an education and training program to prepare the work force for jobs in fields that are growing and will be the economic backbone of the future. That’s what Biden did with his Chips initiative.

From my perspective the harm Donald Trump has done to the country feels vast and woven through every layer of national life. I see a leader who intensified division and turned political identity into a source of conflict rather than community. I feel that he encouraged a culture of anger that made the nation feel spiritually fractured, a place where people stopped listening to one another and where compassion became harder to find. To me this cultural shift is not a small thing but a deep wound that touches the soul of the country. From my perspective his economic choices placed enormous weight on working people while delivering major benefits to the wealthy. Public budget analyses show that the tax cuts of his administration sent most gains to high income groups while federal deficits expanded. I see environmental protections weakened even as scientists warned that the nation needed stronger action to protect water air and land. I feel that these decisions placed short term profit above the wellbeing of future generations and weakened the country’s long term stability. From my perspective Trump damaged democratic norms in ways that still echo today. I see attacks on the credibility of elections and the press that created confusion about truth itself. I see rhetoric that encouraged distrust in the justice system and in the basic idea of shared facts. To me this erosion of trust is one of the most dangerous legacies because a democracy cannot survive when people no longer believe in the legitimacy of its processes. From my perspective his language intensified racial tension and made vulnerable communities feel unsafe. Civil rights organizations reported increases in hate crimes during his presidency and I feel that his tone contributed to an atmosphere where cruelty became more acceptable. I see policies that deepened inequality and made the nation’s moral center feel unstable. To me this is not only political harm but spiritual harm because it affects how people see one another and how they treat one another. From my perspective his foreign policy weakened alliances and reduced global trust. Public reporting shows that long standing partnerships with European allies were strained and major international agreements on climate and diplomacy were abandoned. I see a foreign policy driven by personal conflict rather than long term strategy. To me this left America less respected and less stable in a world that requires cooperation to face shared challenges. All of this together forms a picture that from my perspective feels like a nation pushed toward fragmentation. I see a country that must now rebuild trust restore environmental protections repair democratic norms and rediscover a sense of shared purpose. I see the need for leaders who speak with clarity and compassion and who understand that strength comes from unity rather than division. I see a path forward where the country chooses healing over conflict and where people reclaim the idea that democracy is a living promise that must be protected with care.
