The most radical fantasy in the speech, though, was its claims of a new golden age of prosperity. That misstatement surely deceived nobody. Prices continue to rise; the job market stagnates. In almost every way that can be measured, Americans are communicating economic anxiety and discontent. Trump insisted that they are all wrong. It is as if the nation were being soaked by a torrential downpour, water rolling over umbrellas and into boats, soaking everyone’s clothes—and the leader whose job it is to lead them through the deluge insists that it is not raining at all, that in fact it is sunny, the sunniest day ever.

That chamber represents the American people — not just one party. What stood out wasn’t policy debate. It was body language. Looking around to see whether it was “safe” to stand. Remaining seated during lines about protecting citizens. Shouting accusations during a formal address. If you oppose the policies — debate them. If you disagree — vote against them. But turning a State of the Union into visible protest theater doesn’t project strength. It projects partisanship over country. Now let’s address something important: Criticizing alleged fraud, mismanagement, or oversight failures is not an attack on an entire community. If there are investigations, they should follow the facts wherever they lead. Accountability should apply to yes even Congresswomen. That’s how rule of law works. And if any member of Congress is under investigation, the proper process is oversight, ethics review, or the voters deciding at the ballot box — not social media outrage. Here’s the bottom line: Millions of Americans watching at home saw one side presenting a vision for border enforcement, economic stabilization, and national security. They also saw another side unwilling to even symbolically acknowledge moments about protecting American citizens. Voters will draw their own conclusions. This isn’t about personality. It’s about whether elected officials can rise above reflexive opposition long enough to respect the office, the setting, and the people they represent.
