The classic “blame the other side while ignoring your own track record” routine. Let’s be factual: the Department of Homeland Security has been funded continuously for years…shutdowns are extremely rare and short-lived. Meanwhile, President Trump’s administration has repeatedly politicized funding decisions, from border wall standoffs to last-minute veto threats, creating exactly the kind of uncertainty he’s now whining about. Claiming Democrats are “putting politics over security” while ignoring the decades of bipartisan DHS oversight, budget approvals, and crisis management is…let’s say, selective history. The real danger to NC’s coastlines, airports, and communities isn’t Democrats, it’s using scare tactics to score political points.

Shutdown hits homeland security agencies outside immigration enforcement. Roughly 120,000 Department of Homeland Security employees are working without pay as Democrats and the White House remain at odds over funding the department — and the bulk of those missing checks do not work in immigration enforcement, according to internal numbers compiled by the Trump administration and shared with Semafor

Republicans blocked funds for TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard—critical agencies responsible for keeping Americans safe. ICE must return to their original code of conduct. No masks, use body cams, more training, wear visible IDs., no grabbing people off the street based on color or surrounding, and have judicial warrants before breaking into homes. This is not any different for other law enforcement agencies or ICE enforcement in previous administrations. Republicans have prioritized shielding ICE and DHS from accountability, instead of funding other agencies, it's all or nothing for them. 😡

Facebook Facebook user 6mo ago 61%

Yes, TO ONLY FULLY FUND DHS, Republicans voted AGAINST funding TSA, CISA, FEMA and US Coast Guard separately so they are holding everything else hostage to get a federal mask-wearing militarily-outfitted secret police force that has total legal immunity to violate citizens civil rights and keep secret databases of anyone deemed a dissenter including peaceful protesters and observers. And as you can see they are willing to play word games to cover up what they are actually doing so how could anyone trust them? That's what's happening.

Quite lying 🤥 in the last 24 hours Republicans have blocked five attempts from Democrats to fund TSA, FEMA, our cyber defenses and Coast Guard while talks continue to rein in ICE and Border Patrol.

Senator, respectfully, government funding impasses are rarely the fault of one party alone. Congress as a whole is responsible for passing appropriations bills. Historically, shutdowns or funding lapses happen when partisan policy demands are attached to must-pass funding bills and compromise breaks down. That has happened under administrations and congressional majorities of both parties. If DHS funding is truly the urgent national security priority you describe—especially for the Coast Guard, cybersecurity operations, and protection against foreign threats—then the solution is straightforward: pass a clean or negotiated funding bill that both parties can support. Americans deserve transparency about what specific provisions are blocking an agreement right now and what compromises are actually on the table. National security shouldn’t be reduced to partisan messaging—it should be resolved through bipartisan governance.

Over the last 24 hours, Senate Republicans have blocked five separate bills offered by Senate Democrats to fund key components of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)—including the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG)—while negotiations continue on measures to rein in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Democrats have taken to the Senate floor to propose funding T.S.A. and other branches of the Department of Homeland Security separately, to clear the way for paying federal employees while lawmakers seek negotiations with the White House over limits on the immigration agents.

Facebook Facebook user 6mo ago 51%

omg. you know this isn’t true. negotiating over a funding bill isn’t “aiding terrorists.” that’s absurd. during a shutdown, essential dhs operations keep running — tsa, border patrol, secret service — they don’t disappear. if the threat is real, pass a clean bipartisan bill. drop the scare tactics. this isn’t national security — it’s campaign drama.

A partial government shutdown has hit the Department of Homeland Security. Here's what that means. The Department of Homeland Security has been ensnared by a partial government shutdown as Congress did not act to fund the agency by the end of Friday. But nearly all DHS workers will remain on the job — even if many won't get paid until the lapse ends — and the public probably won't notice much of a change

Facebook Facebook user 6mo ago 50%

The democrats have a bill waiting. It funds DHS and TSA. It also leaves ICE out of the issue, so how we deal with them is not tied to DHS funding. But the Republicans won’t let it go to the floor.

What about the bill to fund TSA alone... Why did Republicans block that? Why have reforms such as no masks, body cams, judicial warrants not been considered?

It’s republicans who should be responsible. No other police agency in this country is allowed to attack people wearing masks without identification and without body cameras. FBI, Secrete Service, state troopers and local police don’t wear masks. When they are allowed to do what they are doing, it’s being more like the Gestapo than police. I think it is a very reasonable request by democrats!
