Do Democrats have something against TSA? They refused to fund airport security unless they also defunded ICE and CBP. And now some oppose Trump using executive authority to pay TSA. It appears the party's immigration priorities outweigh airport security. https://t.co/3KwuPV6QqI

Sounds like more political finger-pointing than anything else. Ensuring TSA workers get paid is obviously important, but framing it as we’ll pay them as long as we have to while blaming the other side just keeps the cycle going. At some point, both parties need to stop using shutdowns as leverage and actually pass a stable funding solution.

Twitter Walter Croncat @mewscast 5mo ago 70%

TSA agents worked without pay. Lines surged. Workers quit. Now GOP pitches a "two-track" fix - fund most of DHS now, use reconciliation to bypass Dems on ICE funding later. Herding cats on the hill - while working people already paid the price. 📰↓ https://t.co/nu3NdsgG4D

Republicans flatly rejected a counteroffer from Democrats to fund DHS with reforms to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The proposal came after the GOP presented what had appeared to be an off-ramp earlier in the week to fund all of DHS except ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations division. ICE & CBP were completely funded in the Big Beautiful Bill. Republicans want an increase because Noem and her team flew through that money. Now Democrats want to hold up ICE & CBP additional funding until controls on them are put in place. Unfortunately, TSA & some other funding is affected. Bipartisan agreements are in place to fund TSA & others but Trump won’t sign off until he gets his SAVE bill thru. A majority of Republicans are afraid to vote for the TSA funding because of Trump. McClain is one of the scared Republicans.

Either Republicans need to present a DHS funding structure that enough of Congress is on board with or they need to agree to fund TSA while negotiation on ICE goes through a longer process. Clearly recent ICE operations have been problematic enough that it's worth being more deliberate before writing them more checks, and clearly they have enough funding allotted right now to keep operating in spite of the shutdown. You also are aware of the fact that DHS wastefully overpaid for an intended ICE detention center in your state that no one wants at that location. You know better than to say that further ICE funding should get a cursory rubber stamp right now. So, yes, please stop using TSA agents as pawns in a political game. Get them back to work, get them out of the equation, and start being part of the solution to the "no negotiation / no compromise" attitude in Congress right now.
